Forging History: Blacksmithing Workshop at Iron Grove Tool Company

Our students will step back into the Middle Ages with a hands-on blacksmithing experience at Iron Grove Tool Company.

This immersive workshop will include:

  • A light history of blacksmithing and the role of blacksmiths in community life.

  • A demonstration of forging tools, culinary knives, and support items—showing how blacksmiths made the tools that built entire societies.

  • Active participation: each student will forge either a small rebar knife or a personalized medallion (about half-dollar size). Students choosing the medallion will have the opportunity to stamp it with their initials.

The activity will last roughly 4 hours, with plenty of time for every student to succeed without feeling rushed.
